2014〜2017にカナダ・サスカチュワン州に住むネイティブ・アメリカン、クリー族の儀式に参加させていただきました。

3回のサンダンス(男性の儀式) 1回のウーマンズセレモニー(女性の儀式) パイプセレモニー スウェットロッジ クリー族と共に祈り、見せて頂いた叡智は世界中の友人のものだと感じます。 微力ですが、こちらでシェアさせて頂きます。

【2016 Sundance ceremony Cree】 以前から巡礼の旅の最後に参加したいと願っていたサンダンス… サンダンスはネイティヴアメリカンが約2000前から継承している男性の儀式で、4日間、太陽の下で水と食べ物を一切断って踊り続ける祈りのセレモニーです。 私には詳しい儀式の事を不充分で語れませんが、10000年以上前からあるウーマンズセレモニー(女性の儀式)と共にあります。 ある時、1人の日本女性がネイティヴアメリカン クリー族との繋がりを持ち続けてセレモニーの参加を呼び掛けているのを知りました。 それは2年前の事でした。 私は地球の調和をネイティヴアメリカンの皆様と共に祈りたい意志を、呼び掛けの坂口火菜子さんにお伝えしました。 そして、今回は9人の日本の仲間と共にセレモニーに参加してきました。 セレモニーには沢山の力が必要で、参加の仕方はそれぞれですが、私は4日間ダンサーとしてお祈りさせて頂きました。 言葉にするまで2ヶ月かかりましたが、大きく分けて3つの気づきを頂きました。

①壮大な地球の歩み

儀式は1本の生命の木を中心にした半径10メートル位のサークルで行われます。 数々の祈りを重ねて聖域の準備を整えます。 日が昇ってから日が沈むまでの4日間のあいだ、 クリエイター、グランドファーザー、マザーアース、太陽、東西南北、ご先祖様、ヒーリング等、ひとつひとつに意識を向けて祈ります。 それは3日目の事でした… 聖域のサークルがミラーのように感じて、そこには太古からの地球の全ての生命の育みが映し出されました。 一羽の鳥も、 大地も、 川も、 草も、虫も、太陽も 人々の魂も… 平等の命。 太陽系の惑星の素晴らしさ… クリエイターの素晴らしさ… 歩みの尊さ… 太陽、月、陰陽… 私達の歴史も文明もそこにありました。 ひとつひとつの命の繋がりの連続で今があり、その壮大なスケールの地球という惑星の美しさに涙が出ました。 生死を繰り返す流れのサイクル… サークルで地球の育みをミラーのように感じている中で、そこから大きな扇状の光が宇宙に広がっているのも感じました。 それに関しては、まだ、腑に落ちた答えが見つかっていません。

②祈りの力

ダンサーは4日間、水と食べ物を断ってサークルで祈ります。 夏の太陽の炎天下で踊り続けます。 それは、体力的にも極限の状態で、特に女性の私は男性に比べて体力も無く、リスクも大きかったと思います。 私はひたすら祈りに集中しました。 そして、周りの仲間が祈ってくれました。 酋長のケネッチが教えてくれました。 「食べる時も、飲む時も、ダンサーを思って感謝して頂くように… サークルも、サポートするティピエリアも、全てがひとつになってエネルギーが混じり合って上昇するから…」 喉が渇いているのもわかりました。 体が乾燥していくのもわかりました。 空腹の状態もわかりました。 「朝ちゃん…毎回食べる時に祈ってるよ、飲む時にも祈ってるよ…」 かおりちゃんが言ってくれました。 そして、みんなが凄い祈りのエネルギーを送ってくれている事を体感しました。 そのエネルギーと共に過酷な状況を超えて祈る事が出来ました。 身体でも、感覚でも実感した信じられない祈りの力… 祈り合わせの力… セレモニーの祈りの力… 地球と宇宙と繋がる祈りの力… 私達、人間には計り知れない能力がある事に気づきました。

③男性への敬意 

サンダンスの祈りのセレモニーは男性の儀式で、宇宙のサイクルを持っている女性に対して謙虚でいる為の儀式でもあるそうです。 女性は元々、生理や出産などの痛みから宇宙のサイクルや地球と繋がった感覚を持っています。 ピアッシングや男性の通過儀礼でもあるサンダンス… 儀式を終えて私は、男性がこんなにも大きな未知の勇気を持って生きているのかを痛感しました。 そして、女性や地球の痛みを分かち合う大きな心に涙が止まりませんでした。 女性とは違う男性の素晴らしいエネルギーを感じて、大いなる敬意を心新たにしました。 そして、この行為の波動が地球に広がる事を実感しました。

太古から続く神聖な儀式に、何故、私のような者が参加させて頂けたのかはわかりません。 これは、あくまで私個人の感想で、受け取る感覚は人それぞれだと思います。 自然に対して、地球に対して、宇宙に対して、クリエイターに対して感謝と謙虚さと愛を教えてくださるサンダンスセレモニー。 このような儀式を継承されているネイティヴアメリカンの皆様に感謝と尊敬の気持ちがつきません。 言葉にするのも不充分で、私はこの感覚を踊りで表現していきたいと思います。 10年前から強い意志でクリー族と日本を繋いでくださった火菜ちゃん… 素晴らしいスピリットの日本の仲間… 新たな流れを受け入れてくださったクリー族酋長のケネッチと奥様のノラ… そして、クリー族の皆様に心より尊敬と感謝を申し上げます。 本当にありがとうございました。

In 2014~2017, I visited the Cree tribe, the Native Americans who dwell in Saskatchewan, Canada and participated in their ceremonies. 3 Sundance (Men’s ceremony), 1 Women’s ceremony, Pipe ceremony, and Sweat Lodge. The wisdom that they’ve shown me through praying together is something I believe is everyones. Here I’d like to share with you a little of what I’ve learned.

“2016 Sundance Ceremony Cree” This was a ceremony that I’ve longed to participate at the end of my trip. Sundance is a men’s ceremony that have been succeeded for over 2,000 years, and it is a ceremony of no food nor drinks and just dancing and praying for 4 days. The women’s ceremony has been going on for more than 10,000 years. Two years ago, I heard that a Japanese woman called Kanako Sakaguchi who had a connection with the Cree tribe, was calling out to join the ceremony. I told her my will to pray with the Native Americans for the world’s harmony. I went to participate with 9 other Japanese fellows. Many energies are needed for the ceremony, and there are many ways to be participted. As for me, I have participated as a dancer as a prayer. It took me 2 months to put this experience into words, but I had been given 3 realizations.

1. The Progress of the Magnificent Earth

The ceremony takes place in a circle with one tree of life in the middle. Many prayers are given while preparing for the holy ground. From the rising sun to the sunset for 4 days, we put our consciousness toward the Creator, grandfather, Mother Earth, the Sun, our has, healings and everything… and we pray. Then on the third day, this happened… I felt the circle of the holy ground become like a mirror, and every progress of life in Earth from the ancient appeared. The land, the river, the grass, the insects, the sun, the souls of people, even a single bird….. We all have equal lifes. How beautiful the solar system is…. How wonderful the creator is…. The nobleness of the passage of time…. The sun, moon, Yin and Yang….. Our history and civilization were all there. Now is made of series of connection of life, and I was moved to tears of the magnificent scale of this beautiful planet called Earth.

2. The Power of Praying

Dancers must cut off any food or drinks and form a circle and pray. Even under the fierce summer sun, we kept dancing. I must have been in a very risky situation, since my physical strength was almost to my limit, especially as a woman. I just kept concentrating on praying. And my fellows prayed for me too. Kennetch told me, “Just like when you are thankful for what you eat or drink or when you think of the dancers, the circle and the teepee area that supports them all come into one energy and rise together…” I felt my throat dry, and my body drying up. I also felt hunger. Kaori told me, “Asako, I’m praying for you whenever I eat or drink….” And then my body felt the fantastic energy of all the prayers given. With that energy of prayers, I was able to overcome the severe condition. It was something my body and sense has ever felt. The power of praying together, the power of the ceremony, and the power of the prayer that connects the earth and universe. I realized there is surely power that is immeasurable for us human beings.

3. Respect to the men

Since the Sundance is a men’s ceremony, it is said to be a rite to show modesty to the women. This is because women naturally are connected to the universe and the earth, caused by the pain from periods and childbirth. I could not stop my tears from the huge soul that the men have to understand the pain that we women and the universe experience. It was a beautiful experience to feel everyone’s different energy come from men, and felt the undulation of this act spread across the Earth.

I am not certain of why I was able to participate in this at the sacred ceremony. This is my opinion and everyone’s perspective might differ. The Sundance ceremony that teaches us to love and be thankful and modest to nature, mother earth, the universe, and Creator. I cannot thank and enough to all the Native Americans who’ve been succeeding the ceremony. I cannot put it enough into words I will express with my dance instead. Thank you so much to Kana, who has been connecting Japan with the Kree tribe with a strong will from 10 years ago, to the Kree tribe leader Kennetch and his wife Nora for accepting us, and especially to everyone in the tribe.
